The board of the European Investment Bank (EIB) agreed on November 14 a new energy lending policy and confirmed the EIB’s increased ambition in climate action and environmental sustainability. The new energy lending policy sets out five principles that will govern future EIB engagement in the energy sector.

Bill introduced in the UK to commit Government to achieve net zero emissions

On 11th June, Rachel Reeves MP, Chair of the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee will present a Bill to Parliament which would hold the Government accountable to reducing UK carbon emissions to net zero by 2050. Ms. Reeves has also published a draft Statutory Instrument (SI) which would enable the Government to achieve the same result of setting the net-zero target in law but do so faster.

Initial IMO Strategy on GHG reduction: An overview

Although it is hard to predict what next years will bring for shipping, discussions at this year’s IMO’s MEPC brought in the spotlight a unified effort towards a more sustainable industry. IMO MEPC 72, which took place during the first week of April 2018, agreed on a target to cut shipping’s overall CO2 by adopting an ‘initial strategy’ as a first step.
