Ophir's subsidiary Ophir Equatorial Guinea Ltd has awarded the upstream construction contract for the Fortuna FLNG Project to Subsea Integration Alliance, which is a partnership between OneSubsea, a Schlumberger company, and Subsea 7.

The welding of subsea pressure retaining equipment is key in ensuring high-quality performance. However, different end user requirements are added to regulatory requirements for subsea welding, without a clear guidance on best practice. A DNV GL-led joint industry project addresses this by harmonizing the end user requirements into one industry standard.

DNV GL has led a joint industry project on standardizing subsea processing, aiming to reduce cost in a lifetime perspective. Initially focusing on subsea pumping, the partners in phase 1 have now concluded the functional description of subsea pumping, while phase 2 will deliver standardized guidelines.

Rolls-Royce has been assigned by the Brazilian ship owning company CBO, to equip an existing offshore platform supply vessel with a new patented dual draglink subsea crane. This will be the first installation of a subsea crane designed to be able to use either fibre or steel wire rope.

DNV GL has published an RP new Recommended Practice for subsea lifting, providing guidance on how to establish, implement and maintain an integrity management system (IMS). The aim is to help operators carry out maintenance activities at the most cost effective intervals, increase confidence in the condition of the subsea equipment and ensure an unified and reliable reference for both authorities and the industry. The need to manage the integrity of subsea production systems, including those being operated beyond the original design life, is becoming more significant and technically challenging as maintenance demands increase and the industry as a whole looks to drive down costs. “In many cases, offshore infrastructure and facilties are operating way beyond their original design life,”says Bente Helen Leinum, DNV GL business development leader subsea.
