Chittagong shipyard gets first HKC Statement of Compliance

PHP Family, a recycling yard located in Chittagong has become the first Bangladeshi yard to receive a Statement of Compliance under the Hong Kong Convention from international Classification Society RINA. Currently, there are over 45 recycling yards in Alang, India that have won such a green credit from international class societies, and another 15 yards working towards it.

ClassNK to issue "Statement of Compliance" for ships with class notation "IHM"

 ClassNK has issued Technical Information to inform that "Statement of Fact" for the Inventory of Hazardous Materials issued by ClassNK regarding the Ship Recycling Convention will be replaced with "Statement of Compliance".To assist ship owners for taking corresponding actions to the Ship Recycling Convention and the EU Regulation, ClassNK will issue "Statement of Compliance" for ships which are affixed with class notation "IHM" and therefore shall have the periodical audit for maintenance of the Inventory, instead of "Statement of Fact"."Statement of Compliance" certifies the conformity at the recent periodical audit for maintenance of the Inventory though "Statement of Fact" does it only at the initial audit.  ECSA supports that all investments in recycling facilities should be rewarded, irrespective of geography and welcomes recent news that ClassNK issed Statements of Compliance to two ship recycling facilities in IndiaThe European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA) welcomed the fact that the classification society ClassNK has issued statements of compliance to two ship recycling facilities in India and, thus, verified that the facilities are in line with the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships, 2009 (HKC) Commenting on the move, Patrick Verhoeven, ECSA Secretary General said: “It is extremely positive to see that Indian yards are taking an active approach to compliance with the international standards on safe and environmentally sound ship recycling even before the rules are implemented. ECSA firmly believes that such initiatives should be further encouraged, including by the European Commission. GMS welcomes Gujarat Ship Recyclers Compliance

GMS has welcomed recent news that two ship recycling yards in Alang , India have been issued Statements of Compliance (SoC) by ClassNK.This confirms that the yards – Kalthia and Priya Blue Industries – comply with the technical standards of Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships. Both facilities are located in Alang, Gujarat, India, and are the first ship recyclers in South Asia to gain such recognition.GMS has long been a supporter of recycling yards in Alang and was instrumental in organising a 14-strong Japanese industry and government delegation visit to India earlier in the year so that officials could see for themselves the improvements being made by some of the more forward-thinking ship recycling yards.A separate visit, also organised by GMS, hosted a delegation from the Danish Shipping Association (DSA) to witness those improved yards.
