Stimulus packages come under focus for South African maritime sector

South African government should put a short term focus on tracking down a set of earlier announced stimulus packages, as well as on the revival of an inter-ministerial committee focused on South Africa’s maritime economic sector, said recently Deputy Minister in the Presidency.

G20 growth falls to 0.7% in Q2 of 2019

Growth of real gross domestic product (GDP) in the G20 area reduced to 0.7% in the second quarter of 2019, in comparison to 0.8% in the previous quarter, according to OECD provisional estimates. On the other hand, GDP growth showed a strong increase in South Africa and Korea, to 0.8% and 1.0%, respectively.

UNCTAD and COMESA partner to speed up trade

The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), one of the continents free trade area, enlisted UNCTAD to enable its goods transportation in the region, as less borders mean that African businesses and consumers could save billions. 

Norden expands operations to Africa

Norden, Danish shipping company, is expanding operations to Africa where it plans to open an office by the end of the year. The new location in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, will be the company’s eleventh office, joining those already established in the US, Brazil, Australia, China, Singapore and India.

East Africa develops, South Africa trade returns to growth

In its latest East and Southern Africa (worldwide) Container Trades 2019 report by Darron Wadey, Dynamar focuses on South Africa struggling during 2017 but has now seen a return to growth. The East, Southern Africa and Indian Ocean Islands trade, abbreviated as ESAf, has a coastline stretching some 21,000 kilometers, with fronts on the Atlantic and Indian Oceans.
