Port of Cape Town explores use of helicopters for pilot transfers

Transnet National Ports Authority is considering to introduce a helicopter service at the Port of Cape Town to boost efficiency of operations in heavy weather conditions. The move comes on the aftermath of the recent serious weather-related disruptions in Cape Town that affected port operations and pilots transfers.

South Africa signs up to IMO treaty on fishing vessel personnel

South Africa has become the 25th State to sign up to the IMO treaty on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Fishing Vessel Personnel (STCW-F). The Convention sets the certification and minimum training requirements for crews of seagoing fishing vessels of 24 metres in length and above.

Stowaway discovered onboard ship at Port Elizabeth

The National Sea Rescue Institute helped in the rescue of a suspected stowaway on Friday, June 8. The stowaway was injured onboard the ship MI Harmony that had docked into the Port of Port Elizabeth. The man was transported to a hospital for further treatment. His condition is currently stable.
