China’s first smart ship launched

The vessel 'Great Intelligence', a 38,800 dwt modified version of the Green Dolphin fuel-efficient Bulk Carrier concept, is the pilot smart ship project within China, designed by Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute and built at Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation.

ReCAAP ISC issues Report for August 2015

Increase in number of incidents - 24 incidents reported ReCAAP Information Sharing Center has issued its Monthly Report for August 2015 on Piracy and Armed Robbery against ships in Asia. The report reveals an increase in number of incidents during August.A total of 24 incidents of armed robbery against ships were reported in Asia in August 2015. Of these, 22 were actual incidents and two were attempted incidents. No piracy incident was reported in August 2015. The number of incidents rebounds in August 2015 after a decline of 54% from 24 incidents in June 2015 to 11 in July 2015. Graph 1 shows the monthly number of incidents reported from August 2014 till August 2015.Overall, a total of 141 incidents had been reported over the past eight months (January-August 2015); and this accounted for an increase of 18% compared to the same period in 2014.
