During SMM 2022, Alfa Laval and WinGD agreed on establishing a joint programme in which Alfa Laval will develop the fuel supply system for WinGD methanol engines.

During SMM 2022, the recently established Norwegian cruise venture and Portuguese shipbuilder West Sea signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) for the construction of the Northern Xplorer’s maiden vessel, which is said to be the world's first zero-emission cruise ship with expected delivery at the start of the 2025/2026 cruise season.

During SMM trade fair in Hamburg, DNV and  MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) signed a contract to implement the new DNV Anti-Roll Assist system and ARCS (Anti-Roll for Containerships) class notation in some 100 vessels, which is a ship-specific tool to avoid container losses due to parametric or synchronous rolling.

During SMM 2022,  Stolt Tankers and Yara Marine Technologies signed an agreement to equip a further seven tankers with Yara Marine's FuelOpt propulsion optimization technology. This new order follows the installation and evaluation of Yara's technology on board the Stolt Breland in early 2022, with the aim to enhance fuel efficiency. 

Wärtsilä Voyage, part of the technology group Wärtsilä, unveiled its new demonstrator and innovation vessel, AHTI, at SMM in Hamburg, Germany.

During a press conference at SMM 2022, DNV unveiled its latest Maritime Forecast to 2050 report with a new focus on how to overcome the “ultimate hurdle” of fuel availability. This year’s publication considers the comprehensive production, distribution and bunkering infrastructures required to enable the maritime industry’s shift to carbon-neutral fuels.
