SAFETY4SEA is pleased to announce that Wärtsilä has received the 2020 SMART4SEA Cyber Security Award, sponsored by ABS, at a prestigious award ceremony which successfully concluded on January the 28th at the Yacht Club of Greece in Athens, the evening ahead of the 2020 SMART4SEA Forum.

ABS along with Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) announced that completed a landmark joint development project (JDP) upon HHI's Integrated Smart-ship solution (ISS) system. Namely, ABS identified the smart functions of the project and published the first Product Design Assessment (PDA), concerning project's data infra-structure.

An intrepid NASA robot with the aim to search for signs of alien life in the solar system has excelled in its first road-test in Antarctica. In fact, it is said that a team of researchers and engineers spent three weeks at Australia’s Casey research station, testing the robot under the Antarctic sea-ice.

The International Group of P&I Clubs has published its Annual Review which provides an overview of the Group, key activities and areas of engagement.

During the second SAFETY4SEA Singapore Forum, Mr. Jerome Floury, Project Manager, Bureau Veritas Singapore, discussed cyber risks in smart and autonomous shipping, providing an overview of recent cyber-attacks in the maritime industry and the potential motives of hackers. He then shared the key pillars of a proper cyber resilience program and recommendations designed to help ships maintain cyber resilience throughout their operational lives.

Over the next few months, The Australian Antarctic Program will be collaborating with NASA in order to test an under-ice robot which may potentially be used in a space mission to look for signs of extra-terrestrial life. It is said that NASA engineers are already working on an underwater rover aspiring to tackle the challenges posed by ocean worlds like Jupiter's moon Europa and Saturn's moon Enceladus. The robot in particular is called Buoyant Rover for Under-Ice Exploration or BRUIE.

W-Foundation, a global relief and conservation organization, collaborates with UN's Climate Neutral Now initiative to boost sustainability and climate action via an application that will encourage the public to take action and share the results of GHG emissions reductions.
