Kongsberg to Supply UK Nautical College Simulators

Navigation, engine room and Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) simulator hardware and software Kongsberg Maritime has been chosen to supply a suite of upgraded navigation, engine room and Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) simulator hardware and software for an extensive facilities upgrade to the School of Simulation & Senior Marine at South Tyneside College. The upgrade project is being carried out during the summer and will include installation of the simulation systems and improvements to the buildings that house them. The project will feature a total refurbishment for the main Polaris bridge simulator, which includes two full-mission bridges and four part task bridges, with brand new consoles including K-Bridge and Polaris Radar ARPA upgrades and the introduction of Multiflex panels, which offer the ability to change functionality through software, rather than swapping out hardware panels. The bridge will benefit from a brand new projection system that is twice as bright and provides twice the resolution of the existing system, while all standard PCs will be replaced and the computer network upgraded from CAT5 to CAT6 cabling. The School of Simulation & Senior Marine's full mission engine room simulator will be upgraded to Kongsberg Maritime's flexible solutions, which includes multiple use of touch screen technology. ...

Kongsberg Delivers Offshore Ops Simulator

Maritime training simulators Superior Energy Services of Houston, Texas, took delivery of one of the most advanced maritime training simulators ever developed, in April 2012. The next-generation simulator from Kongsberg Maritime will be used to provide integrated, real-time training for Superior's offshore marine personnel at its new facility in Anchorage, Alaska.Under the terms of the contract, signed September 2011, Kongsberg Maritime supplied Superior Energy Marine Technical Services with a full mission trainer in support of critical operations including ship bridge maneuvering and navigation, anchor handling, ROV operations, crane operations, process control, containment, and controlled pumping and flaring of hydrocarbons. The system supports the full spectrum of offshore Simultaneous Operations (SIMOPS) activities in support of developing best practices for both surface and sub-sea marine practices - all conducted in real time and in the safety of a simulated environment. The simulator features two full offshore service vessel bridges, with 360 degree field of view, an offshore crane simulator, supplied by KONGSBERG company, GlobalSim, a DeepWorks ROV simulator, supplied to KONGSBERG by Fugro Subsea Services Ltd and a separate Process Simulator, for operator training and control system checkout in addition to multiphase flow simulation, supplied by Kongsberg Oil & Gas Technologies.Superior's working relationship ...

Kongsberg Maritime releases new Dual Fuel Diesel Electric Engine Room Simulator Model

Ongoing simulation model development focuses on vessel efficiency. Kongsberg Maritime has released a sophisticated Engine Room Simulator (ERS) model based on a Dual Fuel Diesel Electric (DFDE) Engine Room configuration from a modern liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier. The new DFDE model will offer the most sophisticated simulator training for LNG engineers available today.DFDE driven vessels are becoming more and more common and the new engine room simulator model has been designed to meet the growing training demands for DFDE propulsion aboard both LNG carriers and other vessels, in order to meet the requirements for SOx reduction set by the IMO."The training requirement for Dual Fuel engines is growing rapidly," explains Leif Pentti Halvorsen, Product Manager for Engine Room Simulators, Kongsberg Maritime. "Of the 30 LNG carriers with non-steam turbine propulsion on order at Samsung as of December 2006, 16 featured DFDE propulsion. Since then, the share of new LNG carriers with DFDE propulsion systems has grown to be the majority of all new LNG carrier buildings.""According to LNG world shipping statistics of all LNG carriers on order, 36 out of 49 have a DFDE configuration . KONGSBERG K-chief systems are used to manage and monitor the necessary power and ...
