India wants to launch low cost ferry services

Indian shipping Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed that the country aspires to begin the navigation in inland waterways and passenger transportation in the rivers in the North Eastern states of India. The company Water and Power Consultancy Services Limited (WAPCOS) is now preparing a model Detailed Project Report, in order to operate low-cost ferry services in the inland waterways in these states.

Boosting data-sharing to improve Short Sea Shipping Performance: Evidence from Limassol port calls analysis

UNCTAD informed that it now acknowledges PortCDM as an enabler for improved performance in short sea shipping based on a study made on the role of enhanced collaboration and data sharing between ports for better performance in short sea shipping. This study chooses to focus on short sea shipping in the Eastern Mediterranean for port calls made in Port of Limassol, Cyprus, and was published in the Sustainability Journal.

World’s first hybrid retrofit for short-sea vessel to take place

Wärtsilä signed an agreement with Hagland Shipping for a hybrid retrofit installation. The project will take place on board the 'Hagland Captain', a general cargo vessel. This will be the first project of its kind ever in short-sea shipping applications. The agreement was signed in December 2018. The installation of the battery hybrid propulsion solution will improve the ship’s environmental performance by reducing its emissions, fuel consumption, and noise.
