ITF reviews competition exemptions for liner shipping

Liner shipping companies gain advantages from an exemption from EU competition law, which enables them to collaborate. The exemption called 'The Consortia Block Exemption Regulation' is to expire on April 25, 2020. In light of its expiry, ITF gathered stakeholders from the containerised maritime supply chain for a Stakeholder Meeting, on 8 February 2019 in Paris, France, for further review.

Smart Maritime Council to focus on technology application in shipping

Representatives from maritime technology companies and industry stakeholders met in London for the first meeting of the Smart Maritime Council. This is a new initiative created by the Smart Maritime Network to drive collaboration and standardisation for the development of IT systems in the shipping industry. Smart Maritime Network was created in January 2019 to boost the benefits of improved integration and data sharing within the maritime sector.
