The Maritime and Coastguard Agency announced that eight foreign flagged ships were under detention in UK ports, during February 2017, after failing Port State Control (PSC) inspection and publishes details of the foreign flagged vessels detained in UK ports each month.

President Trump signed, on March 7, a new Executive Order entitled "Protecting the Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry Into The United States", which bans the entry to US for crewmembers from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen, unless they hold valid visas prior to March 16th. Also, they will not be able to obtain visas, until 90 days after March 16th.

The Belize flagged vessel HEKMEH was refused access to the Paris MoU region in port Constanta (Romania) on 21st February 2017. This refusal of access will become applicable immediately after the ship is authorized to leave this port and anchorage

The USCG has set in motion a detention of the Panama-flagged bulk carriers Atlantic Ruby and Amber L, on February 23, 2017, after discovering substandard safety issues while conducting routine Port State Control exams onboard the vessels.

The Paris MoU organization detained the cargo vessel "SORMOVSKIY 54" in port of Rostov-on-Don, on 4th January 2017. This is the third detention in the Paris MoU region within the last 18 months.

The Paris MOU reminds owners and operators of vessels that have been detained by a Paris MOU member state and who decline to use the national appeal procedure, that they have the option of filing a complaint with the flag state or recognized organization before 15 February.

The RoRo vessel City of Tokyo has been banned to access to any port and anchorage in the Paris MoU region. The ship left the port of Antwerp on 21st October 2016 but failed to call at the repair yard in Dubai as agreed, before 30th November 2016.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has stated that the Administrative Appeals Tribunal upheld the AMSA detention of the container ship OOCL Le Harve in Brisbane in May after a port state control inspection found that the vessel’s safety management system had failed to ensure that the crew had an adequate understanding of the rules relate to management and discharge of garbage at sea.

A vessel which had already been detained following a Port State Control inspection by MCA surveyors in Cardiff, Wales, has been issued with a further detainable deficiency notice after it was discovered the crew had not been paid for many months, ITF reports.
