Samsung Heavy Industries Company Limited (SHI) has agreed to pay penalties amounting to more than $75 million in order to resolve a U.S. government’s investigation into violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. The Department of Justice stated that SHI paid millions of dollars to a Brazilian intermediary knowing that some of the money would be used to bribe high-level executives at Petrobras to obtain a shipbuilding contract.

ABS and Samsung Heavy Industries will join forces on the use of digital technologies, aiming to streamline designing, building, and classing assets in a joint development project signed on September 17. The JDP regards 3D digital disclosure, data exchange, and the use of analytics to support the new construction process and pilot the survey of the future.

Samsung Heavy Industries delivered the largest containership to the Swiss Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) from South Korea. The vessel is the first of the six  23,000 TEU-class vessels that MSC ordered in 2017. 

Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) announced that it has successfully built its first LNG-fueled vessels using its own technology. The company had announced on April 29, that the two LNG-fueled 113,000 dwt oil tankers delivered to an Asian shipowner earlier this year completed the first bunkering at the port of Rotterdam and now begin their operation as eco-friendly vessels.   

HMM finalised the contracts for its twenty eco-friendly mega containerships. Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and Samsung Heavy Industries will construct seven and five 23,000 TEU containerships, for delivery in the second quarter of 2020. HHI will build eight 15,000 TEU containerships, for delivery in the second quarter of 2021.

SHI’s Smart Ship Solution aims to improve vessel efficiency by using real time data from hull and equipment sensors, in cooperation with land-based technical and fleet managers. Real time data will be exchanged between ship and shore facilities, to enable automated operations, and is among the most important cybersecurity challenges for the marine and offshore industries.

Greek owner, operator and manager of LNG carriers GasLog announced that it has ordered a newbuild 180,000 cubic meter LNG carrier from South Korean Samsung Heavy Industries. The vessel, to feature XDF propulsion, is scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2019. 

South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries Co. revealed on Thursday that it is to sign a USD195 million deal, for construction of an LNG carrier. The ship will have capacity of transporting 180,000 cubic meters of LNG and she will be probably delivered in 2020.

Teekay Offshore Partners announced that it has declared options with Samsung Heavy Industries for the construction of two, Suezmax-sized, DP2 shuttle tanker newbuildings for a total fully-built-up cost of approximately $265 million.

Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. announced the completion of the Geoje-shipyard portion of the world's largest sized Egina floating production storage and offloading. The gigantic floater departed for Nigeria on 31th October 2017.
