SeaBird Exploration to conduct 2D seismic survey in Africa

SeaBird Exploration informed that it signed a contract to acquire a 2D seismic survey regarding an unnamed, international oil and gas company in Africa. The survey will begin near the end of September, and is expected to last about three weeks.

Vietnam extends offshore drilling in spite of Chinese calls

Seismic surveys affect health of lobsters, study finds

A new study of the effect on marine life of seismic air guns, used in geological surveys of the seafloor, has discovered that the sensory organs and righting reflexes of rock lobster can be damaged by exposure to air gun signals. The damage was taking place at the time of exposure and remained for at least one year, even after the exposed lobsters moulted.

Geoservices company to conduct seismic survey in Danish offshore fields

Geoservices company Shearwater GeoServices announced on Tuesday, June 25, that it will conduct a 4D seismic survey by Total E&P Danmark A/S (“Total”) this summer. Specifically, the area surveyed will be the Tyra, Tyra SE, and Roar fields, which are located offshore Denmark.

PGS withdraws refinancing

Norwegian seismic services provider PGS announced that it withdraws the proposed transaction, published in late May, according to which the company aimed to raise approximately $525 million of 5-year first lien term loan and approximately $150 million of 5.5-year second lien notes.

The Australian National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority informed that oil and gas major Shell has applied to obtain a permission to conduct a seismic survey offshore Kimberley, Australia. Shell Australia is planning to carry out the Factory three-dimensional (3D) marine seismic survey (MSS) within the Browse and Bonaparte Basin offshore Western Australia (WA).

NYK joins geophysical survey business

On April 1, Ocean Geo-Frontier Co. Ltd (OGF) which is owned by NYK and others, signed an agreement with Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) to focus on geophysical surveys, which are to be conducted by a three-dimensional geophysical survey vessel (seismic vessel).
