SAFETY4SEA is pleased to announce the distinguished shortlisted nominees for the 2021 SMART4SEA Awards, following an online nomination process, initiated a few months ahead of the event, where industry stakeholders proposed nominations. The aim of the awards is to recognize those organizations that demonstrated outstanding performance within the scope of fostering maritime digitalization and  smart shipping.

The second day of the SAFETY4SEA Virtual Forum successfully concluded on October 21st focusing on the how the pandemic has affected ship safety, maritime and cyber security as well as marine insurance claims

SAFETY4SEA announced the winners of the 2020 SAFETYT4SEA Virtual Awards on October 20th , recognizing industry’s outstanding practices for Excellence, Sustainability, Training, Technology, Initiative, Personality and Leadership.

The first day of the SAFETY4SEA Virtual Forum successfully concluded on October 20th focusing on the implications of the pandemic in the short and long term and holding discussions on how the industry should work in creating a safe, clean, inclusive and sustainable future for shipping.

While most people may view slips, trips and falls as simple accidents, and a fact of life, they can pose a serious danger to the health of crew aboard ships. This time, our special column, in association with The North of England P&I Club, gives emphasis on slips, trips and falls which are the reason for many personal injury claims.

The aim of the awards is to recognize those organizations that demonstrated outstanding performance within the scope of fostering Safety Excellence & Sustainable Shipping.

Among the complex consequences of the COVID-19 crisis was a major seafarer welfare issue, as crew mobility was minimized amid globally imposed travel bans. SAFETY4SEA in association with The North P&I Club, features a special column including expert perspectives on critical issues with respect to COVID-19 impact on seafares.

Seafarers from the Philippines are the most satisfied seafarer group by nationality serving onboard ships, as shown by the SAFETY4SEA Crew Wellness survey. The difference with the other nationalities was actually so wide that it could lead us to assume that there is a correlation between nationality and happiness onboard.

SAFETY4SEA Crew Wellness survey was conducted in Q4 2019 and involved 9,768 seafarers serving onboard 1,072 ships. The survey addressed the level of satisfaction in the five aspects of wellbeing: Social, Emotional, Physical, Intellectual and Spiritual.

During the 2020 SAFETY4SEA Limassol Forum, Capt. Rohit Tandon, Head of Operations/ DPA/CSO, FML Ship Management Ltd Cyprus, focused on the behavioral safety as key component of an efficient safety culture. Even after best systems and procedures Incidents occur, Capt. Tandon noted, as unsafe behavior is an early warning system for accidents.
