The pandemic has radically changed our lives; now everyone wishes for life to restore to normal, but we all know that the post-COVID era will have no resemblance with the past. With the vaccinations now occurring across the globe, health officials are optimistic about the outbreak, but the pandemic won’t be over anytime soon. So what that means for shipping? What changes have been affected and what should we expect in the near and long term?

The COVID-19 crisis has posed many challenges to the industry stakeholders across the globe, especially to seafarers who are sailing with the ships extending their contracts due to crew change issues as well as to those who stay at their homes and cannot join vessels, facing financial difficulties.

SAFETY4SEA announced the winners of the 2020 CAREER4SEA Virtual Awards on December 16th , recognizing industry’s outstanding practices for attracting and supporting the younger generation in the maritime industry.

SAFETY4SEA is pleased to announce the distinguished shortlisted nominees for the 2021 SMART4SEA Awards, following an online nomination process, initiated a few months ahead of the event, where industry stakeholders proposed nominations. The aim of the awards is to recognize those organizations that demonstrated outstanding performance within the scope of fostering maritime digitalization and  smart shipping.

The second day of the SAFETY4SEA Virtual Forum successfully concluded on October 21st focusing on the how the pandemic has affected ship safety, maritime and cyber security as well as marine insurance claims

The first day of the SAFETY4SEA Virtual Forum successfully concluded on October 20th focusing on the implications of the pandemic in the short and long term and holding discussions on how the industry should work in creating a safe, clean, inclusive and sustainable future for shipping.

While most people may view slips, trips and falls as simple accidents, and a fact of life, they can pose a serious danger to the health of crew aboard ships. This time, our special column, in association with The North of England P&I Club, gives emphasis on slips, trips and falls which are the reason for many personal injury claims.

The aim of the awards is to recognize those organizations that demonstrated outstanding performance within the scope of fostering Safety Excellence & Sustainable Shipping.

Among the complex consequences of the COVID-19 crisis was a major seafarer welfare issue, as crew mobility was minimized amid globally imposed travel bans.
