​Fisheries-related conventions are key tools used by flag, coastal and port States to monitor and control fishing vessels and limit the risk of illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing activities, by enhancing transparency, traceability and governance.

As Gard Club informs, open manholes and displaced gratings can lead to significant dangers to crewmembers on offshore installations, as two recent incidents showcase, reported by the US Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement.

Following the recent tension in the Strait of Hormuz, the Norwegian Maritime Authority updated its instructions for Norwegian-flagged vessels sailing through the strait. The NMA alerts that they will keep monitoring the situation and any changes will be rapidly updated.

More and more ports around the world are now using helicopters to transfer the pilot to and from the vessel instead of the more traditional use of a pilot boat, North P&I Club informs. Despite the fact that this means that pilots can now transfer in increasingly challenging weather conditions, it also introduces new risks, of which ships' crews should be aware of.

Maritime New Zealand announced that it will provide grants for 3,000 new lifejackets, support lifejacket loan hubs, help create new, at-the-beach training programmes for boaties using jet skis, standup paddleboards and kayaks.
