Several amendments of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) agreed in 2016, 2017 and 2018 are entering into force in less than three months, marking reforms to SOLAS and to international codes made mandatory under the SOLAS Convention.

On Monday, October 21st, the HM Coastguard assisted with the precautionary evacuation of 115 personnel from the Thistle Platform, operated by Enquest PLC, located almost 125 miles North East of Shetland, just over 100 nautical miles north east of Lerwick.

Most recreational boaties in New Zealand continue to be highly safety conscious when they go on the water, but 20% still report that they wear a lifejacket either never, not very often or only some of the time, according to figures released by Maritime New Zealand on the occasion of Safer Boating Week.

New Zealand initiates its annual Safer Boating week, following a fatal winter that led to a number of boating deaths, as until now, 18 people have died in recreational boating accidents, compared to just four in the whole of last year, while 12 of this year’s fatalities have been since the end of March.

Scandinavian Coast Guard asked the UK MCA to board the Rix Emerald following allegations that the vessel departed Sweden without permission, and disappeared when the Swedish Transport Agency tried to detain the vessel, as the Courier reports.

The US Department of Interior launched a new policy according to which it will act as the primary authority on workplace safety for renewable energy projects on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). The new policy highlights the importance of advancing the renewable energy program on the Outer Continental Shelf.
