Bureau Veritas (BV) has launched its first classification Rules for hydrogen-fuelled ships (NR678) to support the safe development of hydrogen propulsion in the maritime sector.

On December 25, 2018, classification society ClassNK announced a partial revision of 'Rules and Guidance for the Survey and Construction of Steel Ships' in order to upgrade the rules to include the latest developments and requirements of the shipping industry. 

The Standard P&I Club has announced that the Chinese Supreme People’s Court presented three new judicial interpretations, including one in relation to property preservation in China entitled ‘Rules on Issues Relating to Property Preservation Cases Processed by People’s Courts’, (the ‘Rules’) which comes into effect from 1 December 2016.

The U.S. Coast Guard has published a final rule on the Harmonization of Standards for Fire Protection, Detection and Extinguishing Equipment, in order to update its regulations to reflect advances in technology and to harmonize its regulations with national and international consensus standards.

Classification society DNV GL recently updated its rules and standards for ships. New and amended rules were formally approved on 1 July and are included in the 2016 July edition of the rules.
