A 19-months-old girl fell to her death after slipping out of her grandfather's arms onboard a Royal Caribbean cruise ship, which was docked in Puerto Rico, on Sunday afternoon. The toddler fell 150 feet from a window and had a hard landing on the Pan American dock in San Juan.

Royal Caribbean Cruises ordered a third Icon Class ship for delivery in 2025. The agreement to build a third ship was placed with shipbuilder Meyer Turku. When completed, the vessel will join sister Icon Class ships, which are set to be delivered in 2022 and 2024.

Royal Caribbean announced that it started construction of its fifth Oasis Class cruise ship on April 24 with a steel cutting ceremony. The steel cutting marked the official start of construction, and took place at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France. The, yet unnamed, Oasis-class ship is planned to be delivered to Royal Caribbean in 2021.

Facial recognition technology has made its way in the cruise industry and now there are available applications everywhere. Technology company IDEMIA has cooperated with Royal Caribbean and the US Customs and Borders Protection to trial biometric identity verification for CBP's processes at terminals in Miami, Florida and Cape Liberty, New Jersey. 

Royal Caribbean has cancelled the next three scheduled sailings of Oasis of the Seas, following an accident where a construction crane struck the ship while undergoing scheduled repairs at Grand Bahama Shipyard, Freeport, Bahamas, on Monday.

A large crane collapsed onto one of the world’s largest cruises in a floating dry dock at the Grand Bahama Shipyard on April 1, resulting in injuries to some personnel and damage. The cruise ship 'Oasis of the Seas' has suffered an unspecified casualty, a major repair and refit facility for the Caribbean cruise industry.

Royal Caribbean International marked the official start of construction by cutting the first piece of steel for its new Quantum Ultra ship, 'Odyssey of the Seas', on 1st of February at Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. The ship is expected to sail fall 2020 from the US.

Royal Caribbean Cruises has reportedly banned for life a 27-year-old man and his friends from travelling on its cruise ships, after he was shown jumping overboard from the 9th deck of 'Symphony of the Seas', the world's largest cruise ship to date. 

The video, published by Muster Station, depicts the world's five largest cruise ships to operate in 2019. Royal Caribbean's 'Symphony of the Seas' is currently claiming the title of the world's largest cruise ship, with a capacity of 6, 780 passengers and long as 3,9 Statues of Liberty. 

In early December, Celebrity Cruises held a naming ceremony for its newest ship 'Celebrity Edge'. Celebrity Edge is the company's first new ship in six years and first new ship series in more than a decade. The ship is known for promoting women in multiple roles onboard, as well as for the way the company's CEO, Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, is working to boost women leadership in shipping industry.
