Inmarsat and Rolls-Royce have signed a Letter of Intent to have the option to make the Rolls-Royce Energy Management system available via Inmarsat Maritime’s Fleet Xpress broadband service, to reduce energy consumption and support environmental compliance.

Rolls-Royce secured an order for delivering its first EPA Tier 4-compliant propulsion systems from its MTU brand to Water Emergency Transportation Authority, for installation in three new catamaran ferries. The first of the three high-speed ferries is expected to enter service on the San Francisco Bay in late 2018. 

Rolls-Royce has revealed plans for an autonomous, single role, naval vessel with a range of 3500 nautical miles. The 60m long vessel is designed to perform a range of single role missions, for example, patrol & surveillance, mine detection or fleet screening.

Rolls-Royce has signed a deal with WestSea Yard, part of Martifer Group, to equip an expeditionary oceanic cruise ship for Portuguese based cruise company Mystic Cruises.Construction of the vessel, designed by Italian Naval Architect Giuseppe Tringali, is already underway at the WestSea Shipyard in northern Portugal with completion expected October 2018.

Rolls-Royce announced a joint three-year service agreement with Siem Offshore and Subsea 7, covering a total of 74 offshore vessels. Under the agreement, Rolls-Royce will maintain and service all of the equipment it has delivered to the two companies’ offshore vessels.

Rolls-Royce, the Norwegian University of Technology Science, research organisation SINTEF Ocean, and classification society DNV GL have signed a memorandum of understanding, with the aim of creating an open source digital platform for use in the development of new ships.

Rolls-Royce and Svitzer have demonstrated the world’s first remotely operated commercial vessel in Copenhagen harbour, Denmark. The companies have also signed an agreement to continue their cooperation to test remote and autonomous operations for vessels, such as autonomous navigation, situational awareness, remote control centre and communication.

Rolls-Royce has received an order for four diesel engines to power the world’s largest hybrid ferry being built for the Norwegian cruise and transport company Color Line.

Rolls-Royce Power Systems and the Constance public utility have signed a cooperation agreement which covers a two-year trial on Lake Constance of the propulsion system of the 'Europe's first inland waterway' passenger vessel. The ferry is fuelled with LNG and scheduled for service from 2019.

Rolls-Royce has revealed a radical overhaul of its vessel design philosophy, which aims to optimise construction and operations without reducing the use of space on board. In this way, a Rolls-Royce designed vessel, whether it is an offshore support vessel or an expedition cruise ship, is expected to be instantly recognisable world-wide.
