Today, the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping, RMI, Danish Shipping, and Maersk Oil Trading announced the launch of two publications outlining the design of their Maritime Book & Claim system.

The Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) has again been recognized as a high-quality registry, achieving 19 consecutive years on the United States Coast Guard’s (USCG’s) QUALSHIP 21 roster.

One seafarer died and another one was injured following the failure of an overhead monorail provision crane aboard an RMI-flagged 2014-built ultramax bulk carrier, the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) informed. 

The Republic of the Marshall Islands stressed the importance of properly inspecting and maintaining all immersion suits, following recent cases of defective immersion suits found onboard RMI-flagged vessels. 

RMI issued an investigation report on the fatal electrocution of a fitter onboard the tanker ANGEL 17 while underway in South Pacific in October 2020. After the incident, the company’s SMS was amended to require using insulating mats for any electrical welding in wet or damp areas.

RMI announced an extension of the Temporary Alternative Inspection Protocol (TAIP) that was established in April 2020 to meet inspection requirements during the COVID-19 pandemic.

RMI issued an investigation report on the fatal fall of a seafarer from a portable ladder onboard the bulk carrier Sfera, while underway in the Philippine Sea, in June 2020. The investigation highlighted non-compliance with SMS procedures with respect to safe use of portable ladders and use of PPE.

RMI issued its Annual Report on marine safety investigations for 2020, recording a total of 726 very serious marine casualties, marine casualties, marine incidents, and occurrences, 80 less than reported during 2019.

RMI issued an investigation report on a Third Engineer fatality onboard the oil/chemical tanker NAVIG8 AXINITE, while underway in the English Channel in July 2020. 

Following a similar warning in April 2020, the Republic of the Marshall Islands Maritime Administrator now informed it continues to receive loss of propulsion reports from ships while in high density traffic or in narrow waters in China.
