How marine cargo benefits the Washington state

The Northwest Seaport Alliance released an economic impact report describing the benefits of marine cargo to the state of Washington. Namely, the ports of Seattle and Tacoma make up the fourth-largest container gateway in North America, and support 20,100 jobs and $1.9 billion in labor income. The marine cargo industry produced an average annual wage of $95,000 and supported $5.9 billion in business output.

HRAS study on abandoned seafarers’ justice

Eight Indian seafarers have been abandoned in Walvis Bay, between the timeframe of one and two years, onboard the St. Vincent and Grenadines-flagged vessel, Halani 1. The abandonment resulted to seafarers' suffering from fatigue and serious mental health problems. As a result, the UK-based Charity 'Human Rights at Sea' stated that Captain Amarjit Singh Bajwa first contacted the charity’s Iran-based researcher, Hajar Hejazi, to appeal for urgent help.

AAPA identifies $4 billion crucial for port security

AAPA identified nearly $4 billion in crucial port and supply chain security needs over the next 10 years, according to the report AAPA launched 'The State of Freight'. Specifically, AAPA members reported they will need $2.62 billion to maintain and upgrade their security apparatus over the next 10 years and $1.27 billion in future security investments to address cybersecurity and other security threats.

Gibson Shipbrokers expects 2.6m b/d to start operations in 2019

Gibson Shipbrokers published a Weekly Tanker Market Report, on January 25, based on EIA's recent report that 2019 is expected to see the largest wave of refinery capacity additions. Gibson expects that 2.6 million b/d of new capacity will initiate operations this year. In terms of pure volumes, this is an optimistic sign for the product tanker market. Yet, the report focuses on how global product flows shape up.
