In recent years, such volatility was typically caused by erratic buying from West Africa, or stronger demand in Latin America. Volumes going to the US have rarely been a driver of volatility, generally ticking over at a steady and predictable pace. However, a combination of both anticipated and unexpected events has temporarily changed the dynamic in the Atlantic product tanker market.

USCG: Conditions of entry on ships arriving from Seychelles

The US Coast Guard announced that it will impose conditions of entry on ships arriving from ports in the Republic of Seychelles. Conditions of entry are intended to protect the US from vessels arriving from countries that have been found to have deficient anti-terrorism port measures in place. Starting on April 12, 2019, certain conditions of entry will apply to any ship that visited a port in the Seychelles in its last five port calls.

Requirements for companies offering GMDSS Shore-Based Maintenance service

Maritime Administrations are responsible of making sure that companies offering a GMDSS Shore-Based Maintenance (SBM) service are acceptable according to the IMO Resolution A.702 (17). If a ship owner has chosen the radio equipment to be maintained through a Shore-Based Maintenance Agreement, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) has agreed with a series of requirements that must be met by a company that seeks registration as a SBM provider.

Necessary Escape Route Signs and Equipment Location Markings

During IMO's 30th session assembly, the organization adopted resolution A.1116(30) about Escape Route Signs and Equipment Location Markings. The resolution harmonizes the requirement of SOLAS regulations II-2/13, II-2/15, III/9, III/11, III/20, taking into consideration the ISO standard 24409. These signs and markings apply to vessels that are constructed on or after 1st January 2019 and current ships that undergo repairs, alterations, modifications and outfitting.

Port of Rotterdam’s plan towards decarbonization

As the European elections take place in May 2019, the Port of Rotterdam sets out its priorities for the coming years in the field of decarbonization. The Port of Rotterdam highlights that a system change is necessary to enable the energy transition, both in Rotterdam and in the rest of Europe. Namely the Port of Rotterdam will focus on energy transition, biobased and circular economy, Carbon Capture and Storage, dydrogen and renewables, and decarbonisation of transport.
