OCIMF issued a document providing guidance for OCIMF Programme Participants on commissioning and conducting a Remote Inspection under OCIMF Programmes, given that remote inspections are on the rise and the restrictions remain strict.

DNV GL and Aker BP jointly conducted a pilot project concerning remote inspections on three of their offshore cranes on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. On both installations, crane operators and specialized crane technicians on board the platforms used tablets to take close-up video and pictures based on an agreed checklist of selected safety functions, which were shared with DNV GL’s onshore inspectors.

A survey by Bureau Veritas on Monday marked the first time ever a Singaporean-flagged harbour tug has undergone a fully accredited annual survey conducted remotely, without a surveyor physically present onboard.

Following the outbreak of COVID-19 and the associated guidance issued by Public Health England (PHE), the MCA announced it was cancelling all face to face oral exams. As the oral exam is an integral part in ensuring the competency of those who will ultimately be responsible for their safety, the safety of others at sea and the protection of marine environment, the MCA has moved this process online.
