Intermarine UK signed a new agreement with a Chinese manufacturer to establish the Port of Portland one of UK’s centers for scrubber installation. The deal was signed during Nor-Shipping 2019, with Shandong Pure Ocean Technology. Intermarine will be an agent to Shandong and will offer to install its scrubbers to several ships to assist them comply with upcoming environmental regulations. 

To address negative effects on human health and ecosystems of maritime activities, more than 80 participants from 19 Mediterranean coastal States and European Union, as well as the IMO and the United Nations Environment Programme, other governmental and non-governmental organizations, the industry and associations, met in Malta last week to discuss several technical issues and strategic issues.

The US Port of Oakland has approved an air quality plan intended to drastically cut diesel and greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the port’s maritime operations. The plan, called the Seaport Air Quality 2020 and Beyond Plan, envisions a zero-emissions operation in the future.

Carnival Corporation published its ninth annual sustainability report, outlining the key initiatives and progress made in 2018 toward its 2020 sustainability performance goals. The full 2018 report, "Sustainability from Ship to Shore," was developed in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative standard.

During her opening address on the enforcement of the 2020 sulphur cap, MPA Singapore's Chief Executive, Quah Ley Hoon, said that vessel will be chosen for inspection according to a risk matrix. The matrix will consider the compliance option of the ship and if a Fuel Oil Non-Availability Report has been submitted.

Greek marine coatings company Jotun announced it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the world’s largest shipbuilder, South Korean Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), for a new type of marine paint that reduces solvent emissions by up to 90%. 

SW/TCH Maritime (SW/TCH) announced its collaboration with Golden Gate Zero Emission Marine (GGZEM), concerning its aim to build and own the 'Water Go Round' e-ferry. The project leverages proven technology from partners including BAE Systems and Hydrogenics.
