Krishnaswamy Natarajan, Executive Director of ReCAAP ISC, unveiled the latest statistics on maritime piracy and armed robbery in Asia, emphasizing that while there are no specific hotspots in the region, the Straits of Malacca and Singapore (SOMS) remain areas of concern. In light of this, he urges ship masters and crews to adhere strictly to best management practices and promptly report any incidents.

One actual incident of armed robbery against ships (CAT 3 incident) in Asia was reported to ReCAAP ISC, between 7th – 13th May 2024.

Over the past week, no incident of piracy and armed robbery against ships in Asia was reported to ReCAAP ISC, between 23rd  – 29th April 2024.

One CAT 3 incident of armed robbery against ships in Asia was reported to ReCAAP ISC, between 17th – 22nd April 2024.

ReCAAP ISC published its 1st quarter piracy report, informing that during the January - March 2024, a total of 26 incidents of Armed Robbery Against Ships (ARAS) were reported in Asia. The 1Q 2024 statistics released in the Anti-Piracy and Sea Robbery Conference 2024.

Four incidents of armed robbery against ships (two CAT 2 and two CAT 4) in Asia were reported to ReCAAP ISC, between 9th - 16th April 2024.
