A total of three armed robberies against ships were reported in Asia in April 2019, according to ReCAAP ISC's monthly report, representing a 70% decrease from April 2018. Both the total number of incidents and the number of actual incidents reported during January-April 2019 are the lowest among a 13-year period.

In its weekly report for 30 April-6 May, ReCAAP ISC informed of one actual incident of armed robbery against the Bahamas-registered tanker 'Sonangol Namibe', while the ship was proceeding at Visakhapatnam SPM anchorage, India. 

In its weekly piracy report for 23-29 April, ReCAAP ISC informed of two actual incidents of armed robbery against ships in Asia. Both incidents occurred in the westbound lane of the Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) in the Singapore Strait on 24 and 25 April.

Four incidents of unauthorised boarding of ships were reported during January-April 2019, in locations of close proximity to each other, in the western sector of Singapore Strait, ReCAAP ISC said in an incident alert issued on 25 April. 

ReCAAP ISC published its Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia for the 1st Quarter Report, from January to March 2019. The report presented a 52% reduction in the total number of incidents reported during January-March 2019, in comparison to the same period in 2018. Both the total number of incidents and number of actual incidents reported during January-March 2019 are the lowest among the period of January-March of 13-year.

In its weekly report for 26 March- 1st April, ReCAAP ISC informed of one actual incident and one attempted incident of armed robbery against ships in Asia. The actual incident involved the Marshall Islands-flagged product tanker 'Nakhal Silver', while anchored at Batangas Anchorage Alpha, Philippines.

During 5 to 11 March 2019, an incident of armed robbery against ship was reported to ReCAAP ISC. The incident took place on 5 February 2019 and was reported to ReCAAP ISC by Focal Point Singapore after verification with the relevant agencies. The incident occurred about 1.3 nm southwest of the Western Boarding Ground Alpha, Singapore.

There was a 65% decrease in the number of incidents of piracy and armed robbery against ships in Asia during January-February 2019 compared to January-February 2018.

As the first government-to-government regional agreement against piracy, one of ReCAAP ISC's notable achievements is sharing figures to raise awareness. But to what extent is this feedback properly accepted by the industry? Is it possible sometimes that we only look at numbers and ignore the actual meaning?

ReCAAP ISC published its weekly report concerning two piracy incidents that took place between 27 of February to 4 March in Straits of Malacca, Singapore and in the Gulf of Guinea. In both incidents the crew was not reported to be injured.
