Tokyo MoU published its Annual Report for 2022, indicating that it conducted 24,894 inspections, involving 15,853 individual ships. However, a cyber attack caused problems in its Port State Control (PSC) platform for several weeks, troubling operations.

The US Coast Guard’s Office of Commercial Vessel Compliance announced the release of the U.S. Port State Control Annual Report for 2022. USCG reported that the total number of ships detained in 2022 for environmental protection, safety, and security related deficiencies increased from 63 to 78.

Fire Safety is a key area of concern during PSC inspections.  It is widely known that fire is one of the worst case scenarios for an on board emergency. PSC data analysis from the last five years shows that there is a lot of concern for onboard fire safety while ships have still several issues to address in this area.

Between 1 May and 17 June 2022, AMSA conducted a focused inspection campaign on hours of work and rest. The results of the campaign were positive and showed general compliance with the work and rest requirements. Most of the inspections conducted during this period, resulted in no hours of work and rest related deficiencies.
