The INTERCARGO Benchmarking Bulk Carriers 2022-2023 report has been published, which evaluates the bulk carrier industry through various performance indicators.

ABS published its Quarterly Report on Port State Control (PSC), providing information to owners on deficiencies identified on ABS vessels during inspections carried out by the various PSC regimes globally during the first quarter of 2023.

The Indian MoU published its annual report for 2022, reporting a total of 5060 inspections. Out of these 5060 inspections, 2279 inspectionshad deficiencies and the total numbers of deficiencies were 9902.

Tokyo MoU published its Annual Report for 2022, indicating that it conducted 24,894 inspections, involving 15,853 individual ships. However, a cyber attack caused problems in its Port State Control (PSC) platform for several weeks, troubling operations.

The US Coast Guard’s Office of Commercial Vessel Compliance announced the release of the U.S. Port State Control Annual Report for 2022. USCG reported that the total number of ships detained in 2022 for environmental protection, safety, and security related deficiencies increased from 63 to 78.

On 9th of March of 2023, a container ship flying the Iranian Flag, inspected in Antwerp, Belgium (Port UNLOCODE BEANR), resulting in a detention with 47 Deficiencies.

On 13th of February of 2023 a General Cargo Ship Flying the Panama Flag, inspected in Nakhodka, Russia (Port UNLOCODE RUNEV) resulting in a detention with 40 Deficiencies.

In its monthly newsletter, EMSA announced that it has developed and released the Flag State Inspection functionality in RuleCheck. The objective of this innovative functionality is to support the work of flag state inspectors performing periodic flag state inspections (not statutory).

On 6th of December of 2022 a Supramax Bulk Carrier Flying the Indonesian Flag, inspected in Port Elizabeth, South Africa (Port UNLOCODE ZAPLZ) resulting in a detention and 85 Deficiencies.
