Port of Virginia the first US port to join SEA\LNG

SEA\LNG has announced that the Port of Virginia has become the first port in the US to join the multi-sector industry coalition, which aims to accelerate the widespread adoption of LNG as a marine fuel. The Port of Virginia is the second North American port alongside the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, and the fifth global port along with the Port of Rotterdam, MPA Singapore, and Yokohama Kawasaki International Port Authority, to join the coalition.

Port of Virginia’s volumes increase 4.3%

The Port of Virginia is still reporting near-peak season cargo volumes, due to the completion of all 13 new container stacks at Virginia International Gateway. This project brought the total number of stacks at the terminal to 28. It was the best February in the port’s history with 228,151 TEUs, or 127,596 containers, compared to last year.

Port of Virginia clears way for more refrigerated fruit imports

The Port of Virginia announced the successful completion of the US Department of Agriculture’s Southeast In-Transit Cold Treatment Pilot program. This program will enable importers of perishables from South American countries to move their cargo across the Port. With cold treatment, perishable fruit imports have their pulp brought to a certain temperature for a period of time, in order to comply with USDA quarantine requirements.

Port of Virginia increases volumes by 8.9%

The Port of Virginia continues to move near-peak season cargo volumes. The port’s container volume for January was 240,111 TEUs, or 134,638 containers, an increase of 8.9% compared to last year. Fiscal 2019 to date, total TEU volume is up 2.8% or 47,745 TEUs, i.e 18,365 containers. The average traditional turn times at both terminals at VIG and Norfolk International Terminals were at 41.8 and 52.6 minutes.
