Read moreOmanoil Matrix Marine Services LLC (MXO), announced the expansion of its physical infrastructure in Oman with the deployment of a new bunker barge in the Port of Sohar.The new barge, MV Stephanie, with 7,535 DWT is providing both heavy fuel oil – IFO 380 RMG 2010 – and marine gas oil to customers at all locations within the Port of Sohar and anchorage areas. MXO now has two dedicated bunker barges within the port providing exclusive supply, following the earlier deployment of AZALEA in August 2014. “Developing our physical infrastructure means that we have more control over the end-to-end bunkering supply chain from order through to final delivery,” said Stephen Robinson, Managing Director of MXO.“This enables us to ensure the quality and quantity of products, the reliability of supply, as well as minimizing costs and maximizing operational efficiencies within the bunkering process. Despite the drop in global oil prices, marine fuel remains a significant proportion of a vessel’s operating costs. That measures are now in place to begin issuing licenses to STS service providers equipped to handle LNG, came as an historic announcement at the 2014 Singapore International Bunkering Conference (SIBCON). With 125 years’ experience between them, Fendercare and SPT will be offered the opportunity to provide this pioneering service after requesting permission to begin operations. SOHAR Executive Commercial Manager Edwin Lammers revealed there are also plans to establish LNG bunkering facilities in SOHAR in years to come. “We are delighted to announce that we have put all of the necessary licensing structures in place to be able to start LNG ship-to-ship services in SOHAR. Around the world there are currently only a few ports that are able to offer this service, among them Port of Rotterdam and Singapore,” Mr. Lammers explained. “This will be the first phase of our project, and we will move quickly in issuing the new licenses and getting things up and running.
