Stena Provident, one of six state-of-the-art methanol fuelled IMOIIMeMAX ships commissioned through the partnership between Proman and Stena Bulk, completed the first ever methanol bunkering at the Port of Savannah, in Georgia, US.

The Port of Savannah received four Super Post-Panamax ship-to-shore cranes on 24th August, upgrading the crane fleet to 34 machines at Garden City Terminal after four older cranes are retired and recycled.

A worker at the US Port of Savannah's Garden City Terminal died in a crane accident in the early morning hours of Friday, according to information by the Georgia Ports Authority. 

Seeds that float in the air can hitchhike in unusual places – like the air-intake grille of a refrigerated shipping container. This is the finding of a team of researchers from the USDA Forest Service, Arkansas State University, and other organizations, from a study that involved vacuuming seeds from air-intake grilles over two seasons at the Port of Savannah, Georgia.

Georgia Port Authority informed that Port of Savannah received three Neo-Panamax ship-to-shore cranes, increasing its total to 36. In fact, through this expansion, the port has the largest crane fleet as a single container terminal located in North America.

The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) has inked an agreement for the supply of two eco-efficient mobile harbor cranes for its terminal at the Port of Savannah. After handover in July 2020, the cranes are expected to improve the terminal’s flexibility in handling containers and general cargo.

Griff Lynch, executive director of the Georgia Ports Authority, announced the acquisition of 145 contiguous acres to the Port of Savannah, or more than 1 million twenty-foot equivalent container units in annual capacity.

The Port of Savannah moved 4.6 million TEUs in 2019, an increase of around 250,000 TEUs, or 5.6%, in comparison to the previous year. Total tons crossing all GPA terminals reached 38.5 million, up from 36.9 million tons in 2018, an increase of 4.3%. 

Recently, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals has reiterated the narrow scope of the turnover duty on a claim brought by an injured longshoreman related to an incident that occurred in the Port of Savannah. Specifically, in Purvis, a longshoreman was injured when an open manhole cover latch fell on his head as he ascended through the manhole for at least the second time.

In fact, the Port of Savannah’s Garden City Terminal has handled nearly 2 million twenty-foot equivalent container units during the first five months of Fiscal Year 2020. It is said that from July to November, the Georgia Ports Authority has handled nearly 2 million TEUs, an increase of 109,000 TEUs, or 5.8%.
