The port of Hamburg is prepared for a United Kingdom exit from the European Union, even should Brexit occur without any deal with the EU. For the time being, the rejection of an exit deal by the British House of Commons, on January 17, has no further repercussions on preparations in Hamburg for Brexit. 

Port of Rotterdam published a statement on a partnership between Pondera Development and SIF Holding Nederland, 'GE Renewable Energy and Future Wind', concerning the installation of the first prototype of the Haliade-X 12 MW wind turbine at Rotterdam-Maasvlakte in the summer of 2019. The collaboration includes a 5-year-test period and a 15-year period of full operation and maintenance. 

According to Realogis, a real estate, consulting company, the Hamburg logistics market experienced a 9% increase, as all market participants amounted to 490.000 sqm, during year 2018, in comparison to 2017. This reflects the third-highest figure in the past five years, since in 2016 610.000 sqm were registered, whereas in 2015, 540.000 sqm registered. 

In connection with work on the technical installations of the new Botlek bridge, several road sections at the Botlek bridge, which is the hazardous substances route, have to be temporarily closed for all traffic. The port highlighted that the closure may extend longer or stop shorter than necessary. Also, in case of bad weather conditions, the work will be postponed.

Ecodelta, a new trailing suction hopper (TSHD), run by LNG, was christened on January 11 in the Dutch port of Rotterdam. The dredging vessel is the key component of the new contract entered into force by Bagger & Aannemingsmaatschappij Van der Kamp and the Port of Rotterdam Authority.

Currently, computers use the sea of data that are produced these days for self-training. The Port of Rotterdam is now investing in this development with Pronto, an application for standardised data exchange on port calls. Today, about half of shipping companies, agents, terminals and other nautical service providers in the port use the system.

Peruvian liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility in Pampa Melchorita cargo count decreased year on year. According to data from Perupetro, the LNG facility shipped an overall of 56 cargoes during 2018, experiencing a decrease in comparison to the 65 cargoes in 2017.

Port of Rotterdam announced that through out 2018 29,475 sea-going vessels arrived. That is 200 less in comparison to 2017 and equal to 2013's numbers. Also, the number of accidents decreased from 129 to 118, on approximately a million shipping movements,maritime and inland shipping.  Although the number of accidents decreased, rules have to be updated.

In the discussion on the European Maritime Single Window proposal, MEPs have issued an amendment introducing an EU level access point interface, in addition to the new harmonised interface that will be developed at European level for the national single windows (NSW). The ports of Hamburg, Antwerp and Rotterdam urge the European Transport Committee to vote against the European Maritime Single Window, according to Port of Rotterdam's statement.

Municipality of Rotterdam and BV Sunny Site Up have signed a letter of intent for the construction of a floating solar park at the Rijnhaven or the surrounding areas. There will be 3,770 solar panels which will be located in the water, together generating sufficient electricity to provide 285 households with clean energy.
