Heavy transport vessel arrives in Rotterdam through the Northern Sea Route

On October 7, the Dutch flag heavy transport vessel BigLift Barentsz arrived in Rotterdam from China, after sailing through the Northern Sea Route. The vessel is designed and built for polar waters. When open, the Northern Sea Route, reduces significantly the distance between China and Europe.

Port of Rotterdam oil spill ‘a stark reminder’ of HFO risk

On 23 June 2018, a collision between a tanker and the jetty in the Port of Rotterdam, Europe’s biggest seaport, caused about 217 tonnes of HFO to spill into the water. The incident highlights the need for a ban on the use and carriage of HFO which can have a devastating environmental impact, warned the Clean Arctic Alliance.
