Ports of Los Angeles, Long Beach face extreme congestion

Due to unprecedented pre-Lunar New Year inbound volumes, Los Angeles and Long Beach ports are experiencing extreme congestion, APL reported. The volume increase is creating many problems such as port delays, increased dwell times and terminal congestion. To deal with the severe congestion and enable better cargo flow, operators are called to: Pick up containers as soon as possible, after they have been discharged; Timely return of the chassis, to avoid chassis shortage for yourselves and others.

Port of Long Beach updates its Master Plan

Port Master Plans outline strategic goals, operational initiatives and environmental policies, and evaluate the consistency of future developments and land uses with those goals, initiatives and policies. The Master Plan covers a Harbor District of nearly 2,700 acres of land and more than 4,500 acres of water. The current Master Plan divides the Harbor District into 10 planning districts and identifies permitted land and water uses.

Port of Long Beach receives fund to construct rail project

The Port of Long Beach has received a $14 million grant, in order to pay for the construction of a rail project. This will improve the, as well as reduce traffic congestion on local streets and freeways. The project will expand on-dock rail usage by approximately 157,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of container cargo per annum, while reducing the need for 615 daily truck trips.
