With the situation in the Suez Canal resolved, still, further delays in European ports await. Measures are now being prepared in the Port of Gothenburg to ensure fast transport of Scandinavian goods.

Volvo Group, Scania, Stena Line, and the Port of Gothenburg joined forces in order to enhance the transition to fossil-free fuels in the transport sector and cut emissions by 70%  until 2030.

The Swedish Port of Gothenburg recently announced that its latest shoreside power system, which goals to reduce carbon emissions by 650 tonnes per year, is currently undergoing tests at Quay 712 at the Ro-Ro Terminal.

From 2021, the Gothenburg Port Authority will use new procurement stipulations for selected contracts in order to reduce carbon emissions at the port and promote the use of greener construction equipment and methods.

On Thursday, Gothenburg City Council passed a resolution to grant more than 1,2 billion kronor (€120,000,000) to finance the Skandia Gateway project, which is aimed at deepening the fairway leading into the Port of Gothenburg.

Port of Gothenburg's new transshipment terminal known as "Svea Terminal" will be soon fully operational, as it is expected to open its doors during autumn.

Overcoming the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Port of Gothenburg announced positive results in its freight volums which remained high during the first quarter of 2020.

Most ports throughout the world have been forced to re-examine their routines, as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. With this in mind, Port of Gothenburg noted the pandemic could accelerate digitalization in what is an otherwise conservative shipping industry.

Following the COVID-19 oubreak, Port of Gothenburg announced that continues its freight operations as normal. Although, due to the large amount of passengers and crewmembers within the cruises' arrivals, the port has set several safety measures to avoid the spread of the disease.
