Keeping up with the industry’s digital evolution, port of Gothenburg joined forces with Wabtec to implement Port Optimizer, a tool that will digitize maritime shipping data for cargo owners and supply chain stakeholders through secure, channeled access.
Most ports throughout the world have been forced to re-examine their routines, as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. With this in mind, Port of Gothenburg noted the pandemic could accelerate digitalization in what is an otherwise conservative shipping industry.
Volvo Trucks’ autonomous vehicle Vera will become part of a solution to transport goods from DFDS’ logistics center to an APM terminal in the Port of Gothenburg, Sweden. The vehicle has a maximum speed of 40 km/hr (25 miles/hr). Last year, Volvo Trucks launched its first electric, autonomous solution, aimed to operate on repetitive assignments in logistics centers, factories and ports.
The Port of Gothenburg informed that it proceeded to the implementation of increased automation, regarding large-scale pumping between terminals and refineries. The new system provides the terminals with fast notification about when pumping can take place, as well as information about the cost on completion.
The Port of Gothenburg has said that the new warehouse that is being constructed by Prologis on behalf of Logent at the Port of Gothenburg Logistics Park will be largely automated. The planned robotic automation solution will increase capacity by 50-75 per cent.
