According to SSA's Oakland International Container Terminal announced, on July 2, that its $6 million conversion to hybrid yard cranes would cut GHG emissions by 96%. Specifically, the marine terminal, which handles 61% of Oakland's cargo, now converts 13 massive cargo handlers, also known as rubber tired gantry cranes, from diesel to battery-powered hybrid engines. 

The Port Esbjerg has adopted the construction of a new, 40,000-m2 multi-terminal in the eastern port area, responding to increased demand for areas for the storage and shipping-out of cargo. The new terminal is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.

The Baltic Container Terminal, which a Maltese company operates since the 1990s, will invest €30 million over the course of the next three years aiming to establish its position as the main recipient of products in the region. Once the works are done, BCT will be able to handle two vessels of 225 metres in length at the same time. 

Morocco will launch new terminals at Tanger Med port on June 27, enabling it to pass the Mediterranean’s largest ports Algeciras and Valencia, as far as container capacity is concerned. This move will also lead to more investment and manufacturing to the country.

The President of Tanzania, John President Magufuli, suspended the plan of the Bagamoyo port construction, following a disagreement with the Chinese investors. The project would have resulted to the biggest port in East Africa. 

The Government of Canada announced that it is to invest $17 million in infrastructure projects that create quality, middle-class jobs and support economic growth. Specifically, the investment aims to increase capacity at the Port of Belledune to move Canadian goods to international markets.

Qatar’s Ministry of Transport and Communications informed that it has completed the dredging works at Doha Port as part of its redevelopment project. Namely, up to 3.5mn cubic meters of material in the approach channel have been cleared and additional berthing has been provided to welcome more than one giant cruise ship.

As Port of Riga informed, four cruise ships called the port on Wednesday, June 19. This number is the largest ever that the port has hosted and reflects the ports capacity and potential. According to Riga Central Terminal Board Member Valdis Andersons 'Given that the city’s zoning has changed, a vision of the future has been created in which we can handle RoRo cargo here, engage in passenger transportation and welcome cruise ships.'

According to Deutsche Welle, the value of the products exchanged between China and Africa surpassed the $200 billion (€177 billion) in value last year, making it the continent’s largest trading partner. The vast majority of these were shipped — more than 90% of Africa’s exports travel by sea.

Standic, a Dutch tank storage company, announced its plans on constructing a new chemical storage terminal in Antwerp, doubling its capacity. The terminal will be located in the 5th Haven dock with an initial storage capacity of 96,000 m³, which can be expanded in future to 230,000 m³. It is due to enter operation in 2021.
