The Japan P&I Club was informed about robberies forced into their way into a vessel anchoring at Callao anchorage in Peru.

Peru’s National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi) filed a civil claim against six companies or their alleged liability in the January 15 oil spill off the coast north of Lima.

IMO is supporting international efforts to assist Peru in oil spill response, following an oil spill which took place north of Lima on 15 January.

During oil spill response efforts at the La Pampilla refinery complex near Lima, Peru, a further eight barrels of oil leaked into the sea. 

Peruvian President Pedro Castillo declared an environmental emergency on January 20, as clean-up teams struggled to contain a huge oil spill, after rogue waves rocked a ship unloading crude.

The Peruvian government has now ratified the United National Convention on the Carriage of Goods by Sea as adopted in Hamburg in 1978 (the Hamburg Rules).
