AkzoNobel announced the launch of Intertrac Vision Lite, a free version app of its big data hull performance prediction tool. The app helps ship owners and operators in the hull coating selection process, as well as to explore the role of big data in supporting hull performance predictions.

MOL announced an agreement with Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding, to jointly develop next-generation vessel monitoring and support systems for practical applications and commercialization. BMT SMART launched SMARTNOON, a new solution aiming to deliver higher resolution vessel performance data, based on noon reports. The system takes a vessel’s noon report as a starting point and then adds metocean data, AIS information and BMT SMART’s analytics, to provide ship owners and operators with the necessary insights.

The first ships to be classed with Lloyd’s Register’s cyber notations have been delivered to Global United in Korea. Built by Hanjin Heavy Industries, in collaboration with Alpha Ori Technology, the ships have been awarded the notation Cyber (AL-SAFE) certifying the autonomous systems onboard as safe.

NAPA launched a new concept of ship performance monitoring, NAPA Fleet Intelligence, that is expected to offer high-accuracy performance monitoring for any vessel, regardless of ownership or charterer. The service delivers voyage-by-voyage analysis of fuel efficiency for any conventionally powered vessel dating back as far as January 2015.

The Maritime Administrator of the Marshall Islands extended approval of the K-Fleet Logbook system, enabling over 4000 flag-registered vessels to introduce digital reporting for oil record and garbage record logbooks. The Logbook may now be used to fulfill the requirements of the Regulations to maintain a deck and navigation log, an engine room log, an oil record book, cargo record book, a garbage record book and a radio log.

UNCTAD highlights the importance of monitoring and tracking progress towards the achievement of relevant economic, social and environmental targets in the maritime transport. In a meeting held yesterday, the organization discussed about indicators which are recognized as critical for maritime business and its users, as well as for governments and policy makers.
