DNV GL takes 24% ownership in expanded StormGeo

StormGeo, a global provider of weather and asset risk management for the offshore, shipping, renewable, aviation and media sectors, has acquired Applied Weather Technology (AWT). This acquisition gives StormGeo a world leading position within decision support for weather sensitive operations in the shipping and offshore industries. DNV GL has converted loans and invested an additional NOK 50 mill to secure 24 % ownership in the new company.

Strategic Partnership Between DNV & Norwegian Storm Geo Group

Strategic and cultural match DNV has, as part of a strategic partnership with StormGeo, acquired the right to purchase 22.6 % of StormGeo's shares through a mutually convertible capital issue, putting their weight behind a world-leading meteorology and risk assessment company. Bjørn K. Haugland, Chief Technology and Sustainability Officer of DNV Group will join the Board of Directors of StormGeo.The core focus of StormGeo will remain within the fields of oil exploration, renewable energy as well as shipping, media and aviation. Pole Star and Amver partnership reaches 1,500 ships

Commitment to safety at sea There are now more than 1,500 vessels contributing position reports to the Amver search and rescue plot via the Pole Star automatic Amver link.In close collaboration with Amver, Pole Star develoed the automatic link in 2008, allowing ship owners and operators to automatically send position reports directly to Amver, relieving the master of manually submitting reports from the bridge.Initially available to Fleet Management customers, Pole Star extended the Amver link to their SSAS Alert Advanced customers in March. Since that time, the number of vessels using the feature has almost doubled, growing at a rate of 4 vessels per day and reaching a new high of 1,500 vessels this week."Pole Star is committed to promoting safety of life at sea which includes helping reduce the bureaucratic burden on the master and ship's officers," commented Paul Morter, Director of Sales (Commercial Marine) at Pole Star.
