On 29 March, the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit decided an important oil spill cost recovery case, involving the tanker Athos, owned by Frescati Shipping Company, back in November 2004. The single-hulled oil tanker ‘Athos I’ spilled approximately 265,000 gallons of crude oil into the Delaware River.

The Chilean Navy responded to a fuel spill on Easter Island. Namely, on April 25, while the motorboat "Lago Icalma" was anchored in the bay of Hanga Roa, unloading, when its barge ruptured the hull near a fuel tank, causing the fuel to spill. The causes of the oil spill are still unknown, and the Maritime Authority of Chile will conduct an investigation on the incident.

The Indonesia police has seized the bulk carrier 'Ever Judger', as the authorities continue to conduct their investigation regarding the recent oil spill and fire in Balikpapan Bay, in which five fishermen who were at the scene, lost their lives. The police asked the immigration office not to let the crewmembers of the ship to leave Indonesia.

The US Coast Guard informed that it is responding to a report of a spill of marine diesel fuel at the APM Terminal in Bayonne, New Jersey, which happened on Wednesday, 25 of April. APM Terminal alerted the National Response Centre that the fuel spilled into Newark Bay while a ship was refueling pier-side at the terminal. The source of the spill is now secured and USCG pollution responders are on the incident scene.

The city of Los Angeles has sued the owners and all other parties associated with the car carrier 'Istra Ace', which caused an extensive oil spill in the Port of LA back in 2016, covering more than 70 acres that took over two weeks to clean. The USCG investigation onboard revealed faulty piping that allowed oil to leak.

A heavy fuel oil discharge was reported on Monday, 23 of April, at the river near Norco, Louisiana. Namely, 1,400 gallons of fuel oil was discharged into the river, by the chemical tanker "Iver Exporter." The source of the discharge is secured and the vessel is currently moored at the Shell Norco Manufacturing Complex.

US Senators introduced the Clean Coast Act, a legislation aiming to address key safety recommendations made after the Deepwater Horizon disaster, to protect US coasts from oil spills. In particular, the bill codifies the Blowout Preventer Systems & Well Control Rule and the Arctic Drilling Rule.

The Deepwater Horizon explosion is an industrial disaster that began on 20 April 2010, in the Gulf of Mexico, resulting in 11 deaths, 17 injuries and a discharge of about 4.9 million barrels of oil into the sea, leaving a heavy legacy in the safety history of oil and gas industry.

The anchor of the Panama-flagged bulk carrier 'Ever Judger' has reportedly caused the rupture of an underwater pipeline, which resulted in a massive oil spill in East Kalimantan, Indonesia, on 31 March, which caused fatality of five fishermen who were at the scene and were caught in the blaze.

The Singapore-flagged LPG tanker 'Crystal Sunrise' collided with the Greece-registered tanker 'Astro Saturn', in the morning hours of 17 April, about one nautical mile south of Tuas Extension, in Singapore territorial waters. As a result, butane had started to leak from one of Crystal Sunrise's cargo tanks.
