The US Department of Justice fined two shipping companies, incorporated in Liberia, for failing to notify the USCG  of a hazardous condition on one of their vessels and to violating the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships (APPS) by presenting false documents to the Coast Guard that covered up vessel oil pollution.

An oily substance in the form of lumps of black tar has been found on an extensive area of Brazil’s North Eastern coast, as reported by Proinde, club correspondents. The Brazilian Navy’s Integrated Maritime Safety Centre is carrying out an investigation on the maritime traffic in the area comprising of about 36,000 square nautical miles in Brazil’s exclusive economic zone, targeting mostly oil tankers.

The Iranian news outlet Shana published the first images of the damaged tanker Sabiti, which was hit by missiles in the Red Sea, last week, off Saudi Arabia's coast and suffered two hull breaches, while Iranian PMO's Managing Director Mohammad Rastad commented that it was definitely a missile hit.

The St. Simons Sound Incident Unified Command (UC) informed that it has divers working in order to find and secure the source of an oil spill that took place from the ro-ro Golden Ray on October 1.  As of now, a salvage operation is trying to lighter the ship, having already removed more than 106,101 gallons of fuel.

Brazil informed on September 27, that an oil spill has contaminated beaches and coastline across eight Brazilian states. However, Brazilian authorities are not about where the oil originated from, with Brazil’s oil agency ANP believing that it may have been spilled by a tanker.

The Norwegian Coastal Administration released photos from a fire incident involving the Russian trawler 'Bukhta Naezdnik'. The NCA was called to assist in the extinguishing work when a fire erupted on the Russian trawler, while at the quay in Tromsø, on 25 September.

Thailand is the latest country to benefit from IMO aid in order to upgrade its oil spill preparedness plan at the National Workshop on National Contingency in Bangkok, which was carried out from Tuesday 24 to Friday 27 September.
