Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) realized the Seventh Technology Workshop for Oil Spill Response and discussed recently completed and ongoing studies. The ultimate goal of one study is to develop a way to measure the effectiveness of subsea dispersant applications.

On February 8, the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville Command Center watch standers received a call stating the tugboat Tutahaco was reportedly discharging bilge oil in to the river. An estimated 100 gallons of bilge oil was discharged.

On completion of the course, Government officials from seven Southeast Asian countries played a significant role in advancing their respective countries’ OPRC capability, as well as regional and international cooperation in the case of major oil spills.

The US Coast Guard has said that it is responding to a report of a 100-gallon diesel-fuel spill in the Missouri River near Kansas City, Missouri, that occurred on October 10. The cause of the incident is under investigation.
