Humanitarian Affairs Chief Mark Lowcock alerted the UN Security Council that an aging oil tanker moored outside Yemen's Hodeidah port was at risk of exploding. The moored tanker was close to Yemen’s recently demilitarized Hodeidah port. During his speech, he highlighted that 'The spill could reach from Bab el Mandeb to the Suez Canal, and potentially as far as the Strait of Hormuz.'

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority published a report, along with additional stakeholders, focusing on an exercise based on an oil spill scenario in waters near remote communities in the Torres Strait. The Exercise Torres 2018 practised a multi-agency and multi-jurisdictional response to an oil spill. 

Partners launched a remediation program in protection of island ecosystems from damage caused by oil pollution from World War II wrecks sunk in the Pacific Ocean in Newcastle Harbour. The ones participating in the project are Major Projects Foundation, the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) and the University of Newcastle. 

The US Coast Guard announced that it is responding to a report of a 32-foot sailing vessel grounded off Magic Island, on June 13. Pollution responders are also on scene assessing the area, as there is a maximum potential fuel load of 27 gallons of diesel aboard. A slight sheen was reported but is expected to dissipate naturally.

The US Coast Guard responded and commented on a crude oil discharge incident from the Bowley Cap Facility in Lake Bully Bonds near Galliano, Louisiana, Sunday, May 26. The source of oil discharge has been secured. Up to now the cause of the incident is under investigation.

The Japan P&I Club published the results on the condition surveys that were carried out during the 2018 policy year. The aim of the survey is to maintain the standard of vessel’s management and seaworthiness above a certain level. For 2019, the Club informed that the most common defects are related to: Hatch covers; Engine room machinery; and Oil spill prevention.

After halting operations, due to an oil spill observation in the area of operations, Equinor commenced oil loadings from its Statfjord field in the North Sea, offshore Norway. In the meantime, Reuters reported that the loading are being conducted by a different buoy on the field.

The US Coast Guard informed that it is monitoring a natural gas and condensate leak from an orphan well, located four nautical miles southeast of Bob Hall Pier near Corpus Christi, Texas, on Thursday, May 9. The US Coast Guard is cooperating with the Railroad Commission of Texas, Texas General Land Office and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to monitor and secure the release.

IMCA issued a safety flash that focused on a pollution accident that occurred during bunkering operations. Specifically, the incident took place as the vessel took bunkers supplied by five tanker trucks, one after the other. Because of difficulties during the bunkering operations, the hose was loosened resulting to the oil spill. As a result, the local Coast Guard was informed and arrived at the area of the incident.

An accident during a bunkering operation aboard the Panama-flagged container ship, MSC Sandra, led to a significant oil spill. According to estimations, three tonnes of marine fuel were spilled during a bunkering operation involving the Bahia III barge and the MSC Sandra containership in the Portuguese port on Friday, 5 April.
