DNV GL reveals top ten cyber security vulnerabilities for the oil and gas industry

DNV GL has delivered a study to the Lysne Committee (Lysneutvalget ) that reveals the top ten most pressing cyber security vulnerabilities for companies operating offshore Norway. An international DNV GL survey of 1,100 business professionals found that, although companies are actively managing their information security, just over half (58%) have adopted an ad hoc management strategy, with only 27% setting concrete goals.

IEA: Outlook for global energy demand

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has issued a report to provide an overview of the global energy demand. IEA says that signs of change in global energy have multiplied in the 12 months since their last report. Oil prices fell sharply, with the prices of other fuels moving in tandem in many parts of the world. Highlights  Pledges made in advance of COP21 promise to give new impetus to the move towards a lower-carbon and more effi cient energy system, but do not alter the picture of rising global needs for energy. China’s transiti on to a less energy-intensive model for growth has major implicati ons for global trends. India – the subject of an in-depth country focus in WEO-2015 – contributes the single largest share of growth, around one-quarter, in global energy demand Meeting India’s energy needs requires a huge commitment of capital and constant vigilance as to the implications for energy security and the environment. India makes rapid gains in bringing energy access to its people, but the world as a whole is falling short of its ambition to provide affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all The process of adjustment in the oil market is rarely ...

Statoil invests in hybrid marine technology for DP vessels

Corvus Energy announced the closing of a strategic investment from Statoil Technology Invest to foster development of advanced lithium ion battery technology for the Offshore Oil & Gas industry. Company says that vessels and equipment hybridized or fully electrified with the Corvus ESS, consume less fuel, operate more efficiently and effectively, and emit substantially less greenhouse gases.“We are building on our success in the offshore supply and service market where we have successfully demonstrated our technology is perfectly suited to the sector’s stringent performance, safety and operational requirements. Offshore supply vessels like the Viking Lady OSV and Edda Ferd PSV that employ the Corvus ESS are field-tested and proven to meet and exceed performance and safety expectations. These vessels run at peak efficiency for longer periods of time, saving fuel and maintenance costs and dramatically reducing emissions, “says Andrew Morden, President & CEO of Corvus Energy.''And now, with the release of new Class Rules pertaining to both Batteries and Dynamic Positioning (DP), Corvus’s ESS system will further enable the reduction in both the size and number of generator sets in vessels with DP operations. Vessels can operate more efficiently and consume far less fuel which is ultimately far better for our ...

BP Technology Outlook: Choices for a secure and sustainable energy future

BP has issued ''BP Technology Outlook'' Report to show how technology can play a major role in meeting future energy challenges by widening energy resource choices, transforming the power sector, improving transport efficiency and helping to address climate concerns out to 2050.The BP Technology Outlook sets out how technological developments could shape and influence the way we identify sources of energy and extract, convert, store and ultimately consume them over the next 35 years.Since the 18th century, energy has helped to drive human and economic development, a process that continues today. This journey has been largely fuelled by fossil fuels – coal, oil and gas – providing heat, power and mobility for industry and consumers.  The past three decades have seen a surge in these trends, driven by demand from emerging economies, led by China and India. However, consuming all of the available fossil fuel resources would create greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions well above the threshold recommended by scientists. For the future, we need energy that is affordable, sustainable and secure.BP reports examines what technology can do in terms of access to primary energy resources, how it might change both the power and transport sectors, especially in the context of reducing ...
