DNV GL successfully completed its vendor’s technical due diligence of a portfolio of Irish wind farms for Gaelectric Holding plc. The portfolio is to be purchased by major Chinese investors CGN Europe Energy, the European renewable investment arm of China General Nuclear (CGN) Power Group – the group that holds a 33% share of the new £18 billion Hinkley Point C nuclear power station in Somerset, UK.

Up to 6,000 homes in UK are now receiving electricity from the first producing wind turbine on Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm. When fully operational later in 2017 the offshore wind farm will provide electricity to over 400,000 homes.

The Indian Ministry of Shipping, as a part of its ‘Green Port Initiative’, has been emphasizing on use of renewable sources of energy to power Major Ports across the nation. When completed, the projects will help in the reduction of carbon dioxide emission by 136,500 MT annually.

The second Borssele offshore wind farm in the Dutch North Sea is expected to be constructed and operated with a subsidy of just 0.3 billion EUR. The originally anticipated subsidy was 5 billion EUR. The wind farm will be built by Shell, Van Oord, Eneco and Mitsubishi/DGE.

Deepwater Wind has announcedthat the Block Island Wind Farm has completed its commissioning and testing phases and begun commercial operations, delivering electricity into the New England region’s grid on a regular basis. Block Island Wind Farm is the first offshore wind farm to deliver energy to the American power grid.

The EU Commission has concluded that Belgian plans to finance electricity generation from offshore renewable energy are in line with EU state aid rules. The measure will further EU energy and climate goals whilst maintaining competition in the Single Market.

MPI Offshore has announced that the wind turbine installation vessel, MPI Discovery, has completed foundation installation works at the Rampion Offshore Wind Farm off the south coast of England. Working closely together with Swire Blue Ocean’s Pacific Orca, MPI Discovery installed the last foundation on 8 November.

The Belgian dredging, environmental and marine engineering group DEME and China COSCO Shipping have formed a joint venture to develop offshore wind energy in China.
