DNV GL has signed an agreement with leading Taiwanese stakeholders to collaborate on offshore wind testing and certification to drive the expansion and facilitate the development of offshore wind in Taiwan.

The 79,350 acre site, secured by Statoil in a federal auction in December 2016, has the potential to generate up to 1GW of offshore wind power, making it a key part of New York State's plan to deploy renewable energy sources to meet the state's electricity needs.

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind announced that Clemson University in South Carolina will test and verify the gearbox and main bearings of the V164-9.5 MW, the world’s most powerful wind turbine. The turbine is most likely to be used for the first round of major offshore wind projects in the United States.

Norwegian oil and gas company Statoil announced that Hywind Scotland, world's first floating wind farm, has started to deliver electricity to the Scottish grid. The 30MW wind farm will be operated by Statoil in partnership with Masdar.

ABS has completed the design review of the Front End Engineering and Design documentation for the University of Maine developed floating offshore wind turbine concept, the VolturnUS, which is based on a concrete four-column semi-submersible hull concept.

DONG Energy informed that it has secured a contract to build its Hornsea Project Two offshore wind farm, claimed as the world’s biggest wind farm, 89 kilometres off the Yorkshire coast. With a massive capacity of 1,386MW, it will be enough to power over 1.3 million UK homes.

The facility connects physical power plant controllers to a real-time simulator, allowing the controller to be fully tested and validated without the need for an actual generation facility or power grid. This enables cost-effective, low-risk testing under realistic conditions for all forms of renewable energy control systems.

After more than 25 years of operation, DONG Energy's Vindeby, the world's first offshore wind farm, was fully dismantled. Vindeby, in the south east of Denmark, was constructed in 1991 as a demonstration project which was to prove whether it was possible to generate green power offshore. 

Adding energy storage to renewable energy installations such as solar plants or wind turbines, is becoming more interesting every day. On this context, DNV GL participated in the WindStock project for Topsector Energie, that focused on feasibility of combining wind, solar and storage.
