The Partnership for Offshore Wind Energy Research (POWER-US) issued a white paper, proposing a framework for offshore wind research and innovation in the US which establishes the relationships, data, systems-level thinking, and strategic research approaches needed to advance the global offshore wind industry.

Norwegian oil major Equinor has been the provisional winner of one of the three leases offered in the US government’s wind lease sale for an area offshore the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and east of New York. This new lease is part of the company's commitment to taking a leadership position in renewable energy development in the US.

The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management reminded that the auction for US's 8th offshore wind auction will start on December 13, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time. Enter-prize Energy and Vietnam Energy Association (VEA) have presented their plan for the creation of the 3.4GW Ke Ga offshore wind farm in Vietnam. The plans were presented on December 07, during a workshop regarding the massive wind farm.

Germany is about to advance its offshore wind capacity. Namely, the government passed a law last week, according to which the government will increase offshore wind capacity to 20 gigawatts by 2030.

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) convened New Jersey business leaders to promote the state’s offshore wind strategy with an in-state supply chain.  As a key component in New Jersey's clean energy initiative, offshore wind will help New Jersey reach 100% clean energy by 2050.

Wärtsilä developed the first targetless laser sensor for offshore wind farm applications, called 'SceneScan Monopole'. The laser sensor aims to increase safety onboard service operation vessels. The system has undergone sea trials earlier in 2018, onboard the 'Windea La Cour', a purpose-built SOV.
